WCWD Pilot Project

West County Wastewater District Microplastic Remediation Pilot Project

PROJECT INFORMATION

PolyGone’s pilot deployment located at the effluent channel in West County Wastewater Facility

Launched in January 2024, the West County Wastewater District located in Richmond, CA is partnering with PolyGone Systems to deploy a microplastic remediation pilot project in their wastewater facility’s effluent channel.

This pilot project employs a new system designed by PolyGone team — Rotational Insertion System. The system incorporates a mill wheel that allows easy deployment and retrieval of the filter arrays and ensures a continuous remediation process while recycling the filters at the same time.

The site: the effluent channels in West County Wastewater facility

The West County Wasterwater Facility owns, operates, and maintains a wastewater collection system with 249 miles of gravity sewer pipelines, 17 lift stations, 6 miles of pressure force mains, and a Water Quality and Resource Recovery Plant with a capacity of 12.5 million gallons per day (mgd), average dry weather flow.

PolyGone’s filtration system is set to be located at the effluent channels connecting the treatment tanks, intercepting effluent water to remediate microplastics.
